  SEPT 26 NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ernest Howard, Sacred Heart, LB, Sr., 6-1, 210, Absecon, NJ/Pleasantville, Week 4 Stats: 11 total tackles (3 solo), 2.0 TFL (7 yards), 1 INT,...Howard's lockdown defense down the stretch helped lead a Sacred Heart rally that saw the Pioneers erase a 14-point deficit in the third quarter and defeat two-time defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth, 38-31, in overtime on Saturday. The junior linebacker led the team with a career-best 11 tackles, including 2.0 tackles for a loss of seven yards. With the game knotted up at 31-all, Howard forced Dartmouth to punt after his third-down tackle resulted in a four-yard loss at the Big Green's own 49-yard line. In overtime, the Absecon, NJ native sealed the come-from-behind victory after intercepting a fourth-down pass from the five-yard line.   Robert O'Donnell picked off a pass by punter Carson Wilt and scored to help Sacred Heart pull away from Norfolk State for a 31-14 victory on Saturday. The Pioneers forced Wilt to punt out of his own end zone with 6:32 to play and a low snap forced him to heave the ball down field. O'Donnell picked off the pass at the 5 and scored to cap the scoring. Marquez McCray was 17 of 27 for 176 yards passing and put Sacred Heart (3-2) on the board first with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Womack on the Pioneers' first possession.

Norfolk State (0-5) answered on its first possession, marching 75 yards in 16 plays with Jordin Lennon punching it in from the 1 to tie the game at 7. Jaylan Adams hit Ikeem Wright from 6 yards to pull the Spartans (0-5) even at 14 with 3:45 left in the first half, but Sam Renzi put Sacred Heart on top for good with a 34-yard field goal just before halftime.   Malik Grant scored his third touchdown of the game in overtime and Ernest Howard followed with an interception as Sacred Heart defeated Dartmouth 38-31 on Saturday, ending the Big Green's 20-game nonconference win streak. Dartmouth's streak had been the longest active one in the FCS. Sacred Heart (2-2) came back from a 31-17 second-half deficit with Grant scoring twice including a 1-yarder with just over two minutes left in regulation. After Grant's overtime touchdown, Ernest Howard cut in front of a Dartmouth receiver to pick off Nick Howard's fourth-down pass from the 5-yard line.

Dartmouth (1-1) took off to a 21-3 first-quarter lead that included 68- and 30-yard touchdown runs by Q Jones and Nick Howard and Howard's 35-yard TD pass to Jonny Barrett. Marquez McCray had passing and rushing touchdowns to cut the Pioneers' deficit to 21-17 at halftime. McCray finished 31 of 36 for 274 yards passing with an interception. Grant rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries. Nick Howard rushed for 186 yards and two scores on 24 carries and passed for 120 yards and another TD with two interceptions.   Malik Grant ran for 109 yards and a score on 23 carries, Rob McCoy added a 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and Sacred Heart beat Central Connecticut 14-10 Saturday night in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams. McCoy finished with five carries for 48 yards for Sacred Heart (1-1). Santana Fonseca kicked a 29-yard field goal just before halftime to trim Central Connecticut's deficit to 7-3 and Nasir Smith capped a nine-play, 90-yard drive with a 1-yard scoring run to give the Blue Devils their first lead at 10-7 with 2:41 to go in the third quarter. Smith had 21 carries for 92 yards and added 38 yards receiving on three catches for Central Connecticut (0-2). The Blue Devils outgained Sacred Heart 254-238 total yards. - AP College Football
